Zorya-Mashproekt SE Is Celebrating Its 65-th Anniversary

18 May 2019 is a day from which we will count 65 years of the issue of the Directive of the USSR’s Minister of Heavy-Duty Production M. S. Kozakov:

“Specify the South Turbine Plant of the Ministry of Heavy-Duty Production as the enterprise involved in manufacturing of pilot and serial gas turbine plants installed primarily on the naval ships.

To Mr. Chumichov, Director, and Mr. Berezin, Acting Chief Engineer of Golovturboprom: establish the Special Design Bureau for Gas Turbine Development at the South Turbine Plant”.

So, in 1954 a new industry branch – marine gas turbine construction was formed. From that very year Zorya-Mashproekt State Enterprise of Gas Turbine Research and Development Complex began its history.

In August 1954 the team of aircraft industry specialists arrived in Mykolaiv. The group was inspired by the idea of application of gas turbine for ship propulsion. The team was headed by Serhiy Kolosov – a pioneer of marine gas turbine construction. His thoughts on gas turbine adaptation for ships propulsion eventually led to the establishment of a new industry.

At the same time, the development of the first gas turbine plant M-1 on the draft of Mr. Kolosov’s Bureau started. The production of M-1 units was complicated by shortage of the necessary equipment.

However, prior to 1956 about forty M-1 plants were manufactured by the serial production. Designers focused their efforts on the development of a new M-2 plant which performance exceeded previous plant.

Since 1956 the serial output of the line of marine gas turbine plants with the wide range of power has been done for the first time in the world’s practice.

In 1958 a main unique M-3 gas turbine plant was developed.

From 1969 to 1971 the exclusive ДТ-4 and М-10 ship power plants were constructed. These light-weighted engines with the aluminium case and special gears with the higher power let the ships rise on the air-cushion or leap on the underwater wings.

In the 1970s and ‘80s marine gas turbine industry was growing. We were ahead highly developed countries for ten years. We built new engines of the third generation: M-70, М-75, М-80, М-85, and М-90. That milestone in the history of enterprise was linked to Viktor Romanov – the prominent scientist, designer, and genius manager.

The new generation of engines required for new materials, technologies or even new production lines. In those days we create a new gear box production, automatic fuel equipment, novel heat-resistant alloys, etc.

New gas turbine propulsion plants were installed on the all types of surface vessels. They have proven to be robust during combat alert duty of naval forces in the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.

The enterprise contributed to the growth of power industry. In 1970 Pivnichne Siayvo, the first floating power plant equipped with our M-8 engine, was put into operation. It ran at the mouth of the Kolyma River. We have built six analogous engines.

Since 1974 we have started building of Mayak trains with our M-62 engines. They operated on the Baikal–Amur Mainline.

Gas turbine generators of the different modifications operated in Tyumen, Yakutia, they supplied power to the facilities at Baikonur.

In 1970 the Soviet government adopted a resolution on the production of natural gas pumping units made by our enterprise. As life have demonstrated, this resolution was very significant for enterprise.

In the 1990s the fourth generation of marine and industrial engines was put into production.

At the beginning of a new millennium the enterprise created 110 MW “super engine” for power generation. In the 2000s 5 MW and 45-60 MW engines were constructed.

Zorya-Mashproekt is currently working on the designing, manufacturing, and further development of new gas turbine engines. The specialists of the company are working upon a parent 32 MW engine.

As it was sixty-five years ago we are working on trailblazing projects. Big team of 10000 superior specialists who make hundreds and thousands decisions every day. Certainly, they will bring once again new achievements and names.
